Step 2: Blot up as much of
the spill as possible.
Blot up as much of the spill as possible working from the outside of the
spot towards the middle. This will keep the spot from spreading. Be sure
to dab the spot instead of rubbing it. Rubbing it will damage the carpet
fibers and spread the spot out making it larger. Keep working until no
more of the spot transfers to your towel. If color is still transferring
keep at it.
Step 3: Place a fresh towel over the spot.
After you have blotted out as much of the spot as possible place a fresh
towel on the spot and a heavy weight on top of it. Let it sit for an hour
or two and most of the spot should transfer to the towel.
Step 4: Clean the spot with your favorite over the counter spot
cleaner.
Follow the directions on the bottle and test an inconspicuous area first.
A closet is a great place to test since it is easily hidden if the spotter
has an adverse reaction. Use as little of the spotter as possible. Over
application of spotters will often lead to a rapid re-soiling problem.
Step 5: Remove the spot cleaner residue.
Using a towel moistened with plain water try to remove as much of the
spotter residue as possible. Once again use a blotting motion instead of a
rubbing one. |
